The Czech Republic’s rich castle heritage continues to attract growing numbers of visitors, with 2025 marking a record year for cultural tourism and strong expectations for 2026. From Prague Castle to romantic chateaux in the countryside, historic sites are benefiting from renewed international interest and targeted investment in preservation and visitor experience.
Prague Castle sets a new all-time record
At the heart of this success is Prague Castle, which welcomed more than 2.7 million paying visitors in 2025, the highest number in its history. This surpasses the previous pre-pandemic record set in 2019 and confirms the castle’s status as one of Europe’s most visited heritage monuments.
According to the Castle Administration, the majority of visitors came from abroad, reflecting Prague’s continued popularity as a cultural destination. Revenue generated from ticket sales is being reinvested into restoration work, improved visitor facilities, and expanded exhibitions, ensuring the long-term protection of the site.
Heritage sites across the country also thrive
Prague Castle’s success mirrors a broader trend. State-owned castles and chateaux managed by the National Heritage Institute collectively attracted over 4.3 million visitors in 2025, an increase of around six percent compared to the previous year.
Major sites such as Lednice, Český Krumlov, and Hluboká nad Vltavou remained among the most visited locations, while several smaller monuments also reported growing interest, thanks to new exhibitions, cultural events, and improved accessibility.

Looking ahead to 2026, heritage experts are highlighting a diverse selection of castles that showcase the architectural and historical richness of Czechia. Among the most recommended are:
